The Rules...

The Rules follow. A pdf of The Rules suitable for printout is online, which includes the Sign-Up Sheet for prospective competitors to print out, complete, and mail in. The Rules are subject to change without notice; please check back before to the event for possible changes and updates.

Glen Ellyn Backyard Barbeque Cook-Off ・ The Rules (Updated December 9, 2009)
  1. The decisions of the GE Backyard BBQ Committee are final.
  2. Each team will be made up of a head cook and as many assistants as the head cook permits.
  3. Contestants must provide all equipment.
  4. Water will not be provided.
  5. No open pits or holes are permitted.
  6. It is the responsibility of the contestants to see that their area is kept clean during and after the contest.
  7. All charcoal and wood products must be extinguished and deposited in the assigned area.
  8. All equipment must be removed and trash placed in the assigned area.
  9. No refund of the entry fee for any reason.
  10. No electric grills/smokers permitted.
  11. Contestants must adhere to all electric, fire, and other city, county, state, and federal codes.
  12. First aid will not be provided.
  13. No cooking or meat prep may begin until the Official Meat Inspector has inspected meat (smokers and grills may be pre-heated prior to 9:00 AM)
  14. Once meat has been inspected, it must not leave the contest site.
  15. Head Chef meeting is at 8:45 am Saturday morning (Optional).
  16. Use of gasoline or other auxiliary heat sources may result in immediate disqualification.
  17. Meat must start out raw. No pre-seasoned meat will be allowed, except sausage.
  18. Garnish is completely optional. If using garnish, the only acceptable garnish is Green Leaf Lettuce and/or Green Parsley.
  19. No generators.
  20. Most Important Rule of All...
    HAVE FUN!!

  1. can u use store bought sauces and rubs? or do they have to be made yourself?

    Store bought sauces and rubs are acceptable. Ribs need to start raw, no pre-seasoning or marinating. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  4. Yes. Your meat may be pre-cut and trimmed. But CANNOT be pre-seasoned, pre-marinated or pre-cooked.

    6 days to go and I can't wait! It's gonna be awesome!
