Latest Press Coverage...

The Glen Ellyn Sun reported, Barbecue contest has residents fired up...

"Summer may be winding down, but folks in Glen Ellyn were still grillin’ and chillin’ Sept. 18 as the Glen Ellyn Backyard Barbecue Committee held its second annual BBQ Cook-Off event, in order to pit grill masters against one another and raise money for the Bridge Communities charity of Glen Ellyn..."

  1. FYI: Jim Quinn of Hawg Holler BBQ (Marseilles) was our 1st Place Winner of "Best Dish" and NOT Jim Burket as stated in the article.

  2. Burket is always trying to be the center of attention. Probably whispered into the reporter's ear.

Anyway, AWESOME job, Pig Daddy and crew and I LOVE the T-shirt this year. I already got some stains on mine so I'm gonna have to try and get me another. Stained one for workin around the house and nice one for goin out on the town........

    And great band, too.

Hey, I read some quotes about next year in some of the articles. I hope in the effort to bring in more professional contestants you don't lose the amateurs. Us local novices really appreciate the event.

I'm also a little torn about whether moving the event will be a good thing. One thing is for sure - if a move to downtown or Lake Ellyn negates the ability to crack open some brews with my boys and passersby, I'll be really disappointed.

    Take care, and great job.

  3. Thanks so much!

I've contacted the reporter and the editor asking that they correct the electronic version to reflect the appropriate winner.

We are torn too. Ultimately, one day, I think our event should be moved downtown, but not until we've completely developed a solid foundation from which to build. NEVER can we lose the residential feel of what makes our Backyard BBQ Cook-Off, well, a Backyard BBQ Cook-Off.

Residential appeal and sense of community is what makes our event unique and what most folks find attractive about it.

And don't worry, our event is, and always will serve as a great launch pad for "novice" teams to cook in a fantastic learning environment for honing experience and skills. Additionally, it will always serve as a great place for “seasoned" teams to try out new recipes and techniques.

Introducing "professional" teams is something we'd consider as an addition. One benefit is that they might provide us a with a good opportunity to raise larger amounts of $ for Bridge Communities and to draw more folks to our town.

So many, many things to consider upon moving forward.

One thing is for certain, we appreciate your support and your comments here. Please continue sharing your thoughts.

    Many Thanks!
